Evaluating the Business Value of Internet-based Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce

The commercialisation of the Internet has sparked off a new wave of growth in Business-toBusiness Electronic Commerce— Internet-based Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce (Internet-based B2BEC). Many organisations are slow in warming up to the idea of using the Internet for conducting secure and high volume business transactions. Nevertheless, organisations like Cisco and Dell are transacting multi-million dollar Internet business each day. This paper proposes a framework for evaluating the business value of Internet-based B2BEC, hoping that a better understanding of the business value of Internet-based B2BEC will encourage more organisations to implement it. The emphasis is on delivering business value through enabling Business Process Transformation, Productivity Gains, New Business Opportunities and changes to Trading Partner Relationships.
